Reading the article about the Black History Month by the talented blogger Kissie got me think alot about how the black history is influential in our culture. For some reason we've been tough about it in many occasions throughout our educational system. They are always mentioned as those strong nations who can rise above the difficulties that can face them but yet who always fair and can find forgiveness to those who mistreated them .
I LIKE this romantic true story we took in the Arabic literature classes starring Antara ibn Shaddad ,one of the most famous Arab poets and knights in the period before Islam,he was a black person from an Ethiopian mother and Arabian father. Antara is also famous for his love story his with Abla, who loved him in return. She is a princess of her tribe ,she was the most beautiful women ,While Antara was the very poor savored the yoke of slavery as a boy, along with deprivation and hardship and humiliation. So Abla father was against this relationship, and kept putting obstacle in the way of their love including keeping Abla on move constantly . But all that never prevented him from being the hero of his people, the champion of the wars ,protecting their lands and lives. He died as Knight fighting at age ninety years old, he was killed by a poisoned arrow, and even when he felt he was dying , he took a fighter pose- he remained riding his horse, used his his spear as a support , he ordered the army to retreat backwards to avoid enemies, and he remained as steadfast protector in that pose as the army of the enemy see the fugitive army but can not dare to follow them as they were astonished by the brave hero leader defending his men to last breaths he had. and even Antara spirit left his body, he was still in place, leaning on the spear over his horse . He died without marrying Abla the girl he love so much To the point that made him challenged all the horrors and difficulties..
Also things i remember from our geography lessons is that the Arab relations with the African nations is as old as history itself . This relation these relations goes back to more than two thousand years .It is not long ago, in geological terms, that Arabia and Africa were one but the movement of tectonic plates caused the Arabian landmass to slide to the north-east and the Red Sea separated the two regions.Despite the fact that this red sea barrier, there was (and still) lots of communications between the two regions through the Sinai Peninsula and through the Bab al-Mandab.
These old ties have become closer and have evolved with the advent of Islam and the beginning of the seventh century AD. Arabian migrants used to cross the Red Sea constantly heading to the highlands of Ethiopia in the first millennium before the birth of Christ, and then the Kingdom of Sheba moved and established the Kingdom of Axum in the fourth century. Not to forget the Egyptian Queen "Hatshepsut" to the (punt) nation in a request for perfumes and incense, three thousand and fife hundred years ago .
The presence of the Arab after Islam is is dated to the first migration of the first Muslims community fled to Ethiopia (called Abyssinia at those times ) for fear of sedition .That was the first migration in Islam, their number at that time a little more than eighty .It all started in the fifth year of the Prophet Mohamed call ,when he advised Muslims to leave Mecca and migrate to Abyssinia because there is king called Negus known for his justice, wisdom and generosity ,who will provide safety for themselves and their religion. MUSLIMS lived in peace there ,he provided safety for them and their religion,It is said that this immigration occurred between 610-629 AD . Negus ruled Abyssinia when he was 9 years old ,after the death of his uncle in a lightning.Few years of his reign, improvement and justice spreed out through Ethiopia.
There are a lot if black heroes in Islamic history ,for example Bilal ibn Rabah , a very honorable companion of the prophet .He was a slave who announced his conversion to Islam then he was tortured by his master ,then Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (another great prophet companion ) came and freed him. He was Known for his great patience on torture and aphorism "AHAD ,AHAD " it mean there is no God but Allah. His voice was beautiful ,the reason of which the Prophet gave him the task of calling to prayers
Along with the common trade Interests and the successive human migrations , the Africans played an active role in spreading Islam to the rest of the earth especially to the new world.
In another geography lesson i recall that the Muslim sailors from Africa took Christopher Columbus to America. Of course Columbus took all the credit for this discovery taking all the glory from the African sailors....
You see the relations between the two nations have been always fruitful, never repressive.
